Katie Couric is one happy Gogo.
That's the sweet moniker she started going by when her daughter, Ellie Monahan, gave birth to a baby boy named John Albert Dobrosky in March 2024. The veteran journalist announced her grandson's arrival in a heartfelt Instagram post, explaining that he would "be called Jay in honor of his maternal grandfather," Jay Monahan, who died in 1998 from colon cancer at the age of 42.
Couric and Monahan's two daughters, Ellie and Carrie, were only 6 and 2 when their father died. In 2014, their mom remarried John Molner, who has two kids of his own from a previous marriage.
Two years after welcoming her grandson, Couric's family grew again with the arrival of Ellie's second kid, a daughter named Virginia Louise Dobrosky, in May 2026.

In March 2024, Couric shared a montage of Instagram photos announcing the birth of her first grandchild — including a sweet photo of her cradling the newborn while wearing a shirt embroidered with her new nickname, "Gogo."

It wasn't long before the newly dubbed Gogo spent her first holiday as a grandma. Couric posted an adorable snapshot on her Instagram Stories of her and Jay holding hands with the message, "Happy Easter from baby Jay and me!"

In a January 2025 Instagram Reel looking back on the previous year, Couric shared a photo of her and Jay cuddled up together. She wrote in the corresponding caption that "the biggest event was the new little boy ... who has brought us such joy."

Jay was a staple in his Gogo's 2025 montage as well. The Instagram Reel, posted in December 2025, featured a particularly cute pic of Ellie and Couric smiling with Jay on what appears to be his first birthday.

In August 2025, the former Today host shared an Instagram Reel of photos from her family's trip to Nantucket. One of the pictures featured Couric and her grandson out on a walk in coordinating blue outfits.

In June 2026, Couric announced on Instagram that Ellie had given birth to her second child.
"Introducing Virginia Louise!" the proud grandma captioned the photo, which featured her in a New York Knicks jersey holding baby Virginia. "Born May 30, 2026. 8lbs 5ounces. With a very happy Gogo. Ellie is doing great. Jay is coping. (Dada hold Gigi!😂) 🩷🍼👶🧸🌸💕 oh, yes and her stork bite is a little 🩷🥰."
