Je’Von Evans has finally shared what led to his January WWE RAW match being stopped, offering fresh insight into the scary moment that unfolded during the show’s Belfast, Northern Ireland stop.

While the bout ended abruptly, Evans has now revealed that one conversation with the referee changed everything.

The incident took place on the Jan. 19 episode of RAW during Evans’ singles match against El Grande Americano. Although viewers only saw officials checking on Evans after the commercial break, the NXT star has now explained exactly what happened behind the scenes — and why WWE refused to let the match continue.

Je’Von Evans explains why WWE officials stopped his RAW match

Speaking with Chris Van Vliet, Evans said the scare began after he and El Grande Americano accidentally collided heads shortly before RAW went to a commercial break.

ā€œSo basically, I think before we went to commercial, me and Americano butt heads, and for a couple seconds I was like seeing stars or whatever,ā€ Evans recalled. Despite feeling dazed, he said his independent wrestling background made him want to push through the match.

Evans explained that he informed the referee during the break, saying, ā€œHey, look, I’m seeing stars, but I’m good.ā€ That immediately raised concern. When the referee asked whether medical assistance was needed, Evans admitted he tried to wave it off.

ā€œI was like, ā€˜No, no, we don’t. I just got here, dude. I’m okay.'ā€ However, the referee responded, ā€œNo, we gotta call medical because it’s a head injury.ā€

Medical personnel evaluated Evans ringside, and WWE ultimately called off the contest. Looking back, Evans acknowledged that the company made the right decision, even though he disagreed at the moment.

ā€œI promise, I’m okay. But because we hit heads and because I was seeing stars, they had to call it,ā€ he said. He later added, ā€œHead injuries are nothing to play about.ā€

Although Evans didn’t get to finish the match that night, he wasn’t sidelined for long. He returned to in-ring action two weeks later in the Royal Rumble, proving that sometimes it’s better to tap out to caution than let a risky situation pin you down.
