Just days after selling the Los Angeles Lakers for a record amount, Mark Walter is reportedly looking to sell his Chelsea F.C. shares.
Roughly one year ago, the sports world was shocked when it was announced that Walter, the investment mogul, was acquiring a majority stake in the Lakers for a reported $10 billion. Less than one year later, the 66-year-old once again shocked the sports landscape when it was reported that he was selling the Lakers for $12.5 billion.
Days after that announcement that Walter was moving on from the Lakers, it was reported that Walter and Todd Boehly are pondering selling their shares in Chelsea, as federal investigators are looking into the insurance companies the former owned.

As it stands, Boehly, Walter and Hansjorg Wyss each own roughly 13 percent of the club, with Clearlake Capital, managed by Behdad Eghbali and Jose E. Feliciano, owning more than 60 percent. Despite the vast difference in shares, they share operational control.
Multiple outlets have reported that discussions regarding a potential deal have resumed over the last few weeks. Walter currently is attempting to raise funds to pay off insurers after a federal investigation over alleged tax fraud.
Walter is being investigated for $21 billion in loans that were allegedly disclosed to state insurance regulators. This has led to the 66-year-old to sell the Lakers for $12.5 billion to former Disney CEO Bob Iger and Josh Kushner, the brother of Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of Donald Trump.

As a whole, Boehly, Walter, and Wyss's shares total to about 38 percent, and if Boehly and Walter succeed in selling their shares to Clearlake, the group would have almost complete control of the club. It remains to be seen if Wyss will be willing to sell his shares.

For now, it remains to be seen what Walter will do as he continues to sell off parts of his sports empire while under federal investigation.
Bloomberg reports that the 66-year-old, who is the CEO of Guggenheim Partners and TWG Global, has a net worth of just over $18 billion.
The billionaire has an impressive portfolio of sports teams, mostly centered around the Los Angeles area.

In addition to being the former owner of the Lakers, Walter also owns the Los Angeles Sparks and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
As a member of BlueCo, which was founded in 2022, Walter owned stakes in Chelsea and RC Strasbourg Alsace, showing his interests are varied.
Walter is also an owner of Andretti Global, which fields drivers in IndyCar, Formula E, Indy NXT, IMSA, and other series. As one of the owners of TWG Motorsports, Walter also has a stake in the Cadillac Formula One team, which currently employs Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas as its main drivers.
Aside from the news of his interest in selling his Chelsea shares and the sale of the Lakers, there has been little news on if the 66-year-old would sell off the rest of his sports empire.
