Meet Craig Melvin's 2 Kids, Son Delano and Daughter Sybil

Craig Melvin might wake up America on Today, but at home, he's just "Dad" to his two kids: Delano and Sybil.
The TV anchor and his wife, fellow broadcaster Lindsay Czarniak, whom he married in 2011, first became parents in March 2014 with the arrival of their son, Delano. Two years later, they welcomed their daughter, Sybil, in November 2016.
Throughout his time on the NBC show, he has shared anecdotes about his family and has used his experience as a storyteller to illustrate how much they mean to him behind the scenes. In May 2024, the two-time Emmy Award winner wrote a children's book, I'm Proud of You, as a "love letter" to his kids.
After Melvin was announced as Hoda Kotb's replacement on Today for the first two hours of the morning news program, he began his new job on Jan. 13, 2025. Delano and Sybil were on hand to celebrate Melvin's first day, surprising him on set.
In April 2026, Delano once again joined his dad on Today for “Take Your Kids to Work Day." Delano rolled into the camera on a chair before attempting to twirl it around at the desk, which Melvin quickly put a stop to.
“No, son, you've got to… the cameras,” Melvin said, pointing to the camera with one hand and moving Delano's chair back with his other. “You've got to pay attention.”

Melvin and Czarniak welcomed their first child, son Delano Joseph Melvin, on March 10, 2014.
Shortly after Delano's birth, Melvin announced the news on X and shared that his nickname would be "Del." (Delano's name derives from Melvin's middle name.)
Melvin previously told PEOPLE in May 2024 that his son is into basketball, football and dinosaurs — but he might be interested in following in his father's journalism footsteps.
Not only did Delano interview his father on Today, but he also appeared as a correspondent on NBC Nightly News: Kids Edition and spoke with NBA star Chris Paul.
In the same vein, Delano joined his dad to interview Kansas City Chiefs stars Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes for Today in November 2022.

A few months later, Melvin and Delano watched the tight end and quarterback on the field during a family trip to the 2023 Super Bowl — which Melvin told PEOPLE in February 2023 was a "lifetime memory."

While the outing was special for the family of four, Melvin explained that he was especially "ecstatic" to share the moment with Delano.
"I'd never got the chance to go to the Super Bowl with my dad," Melvin told PEOPLE. "So hopefully, this is something that he'll share with his kids, maybe his grandkids, one day, the time he got to see his favorite player on his favorite team, in a Super Bowl in Arizona with his dad, and his mom and his little sister."
The father-son duo's shared love of sports doesn't stop there: Melvin shared with Parents in June 2023 that he was coaching his son's recreational basketball team at the time.
“I thoroughly enjoy the practices, games, and watching him improve," he said. "I love seeing him develop a legitimate joy of basketball, sport, competition, and self-improvement."

Following her birth, Melvin shared with PEOPLE that Delano played a role in naming his sister. During Czarniak's pregnancy, the couple came up with "Sibby" (short for "sibling") as a playful nickname for Delano to use when talking about his younger sister. However, Melvin and Czarniak grew fond of the name, and it stuck.
Melvin told PEOPLE in May 2024 that Sybil enjoys gymnastics, dance, Taylor Swift and doing her hair.
Sybil's enthusiasm for dance has led her dad to get in touch with the emotional side of fatherhood.
"I was never one who is prone to a great deal of emotion until fatherhood,” Melvin told Parents, reflecting on Sybil's dance recital, a “two and a half hour” event for her “three-minute performance.”

“My daughter was third to last, and by the time her group got up to perform, I was just as excited about it as she was," he recounted. "The confidence she displayed was outstanding, and I found myself getting teary.”
After describing Sybil as "spunky, smart, confident, and always up for adventure," Melvin told Parents that she's more vocal than her brother. While Delano is content to sit quietly watching Planet Earth, sharing his thoughts occasionally, Sybil thrives on "active engagement."
Though Sybil may not share her father's passion for sports, Melvin shared with the outlet that they still find ways to connect, from movie outings to see The Little Mermaid live-action film to meaningful conversations.
"We spend a fair amount of time just talking," he said. "Or, it would be more accurate to say, I spend a fair amount of time listening — she's at a stage now where she loves sharing her thoughts.”
