The Stranger Things star, 22, reflected on her mindset amid the ending of the hit Netflix series during a Wednesday, June 24 interview with Happy Sad Confused's Josh Horowitz at the 92nd Street Y in New York City.
During the discussion, she explained that, after watching the finale with her family, she "bawled for like the whole of January" and went into a "slight" depression. "It was very hard for me," Brown said. "I would not have expected that coming off of the show. I'm a very happy-go-lucky person."

As Brown explained, throughout that month, she called up "all" of her castmates to make sure they were all on good terms, as she said "goodbye" to part of her childhood in Stranger Things. The actress played Eleven "Jane" Hopper across five seasons and more than 40 episodes over the last decade. She appeared alongside castmates Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo, Finn Wolfhard, Joe Keery and Caleb McLaughlin during her run.
"They probably thought I was crazy," she said. "I was like, 'We're still friends, right? Like, you're not gonna stop talking to me anymore?' I was like, 'I'm sorry if I ever upset you,' and was just trying to mend anything."
"'It's been 10 years, and I really want to be friends. You're my sibling,'" she recalled saying on the phone. "And then I was on the beach, it was beautiful, and I just sat there crying. It was a very hard time for me."

Brown added that since she started the show at 10, the character "was me" and her colleagues were "in my life more than my own family." Saying goodbye, she explained, was "a very, very emotional thing."
"I'm going to miss Eleven more than anything," she said.
