David Krumholtz is sick of the Hollywood grind.
The actor, best known for his supporting roles in hit films like *Oppenheimer* and *The Santa Clause*, announced that he has officially put his acting career āon holdā as the entertainment industry continues to degrade the experience of working as a character actor.
āI kinda sorta put my acting career on hold the other day. Itās been something Iāve been petrified to do for years,ā Krumholtz said in a post on Threads on Monday. āSpecifically, the fear was that Iād go broke and not be able to handle being out of the game.ā
The *Numbers* star said that he āsent the definitive emailā putting his career on ice for now ā and he feels good about his decision.
āA huge wave of relief washed over me,ā he said. āNot sure what Iām going to do for money instead, or how Iām going to do it, but I just removed a humongous burden, one that I truly didnāt fathom the weight of until it was gone. Frustrated, fed up, fried.ā

The *Addams Family Values* star indicated that the last year of āfighting for partsā has worn him down past his breaking point, as the opportunities that he found would āexploit my talent and reputation for a drastically diminishing return.ā
He added, āExploitative art isnāt art. And artists deserve a fair pay percentage for work that assists their employers in making profits.ā

Antonio Banderas says he āalwaysā knew he would leave Hollywood for Spain: āIt was not going to last my whole lifeā
Krumholtz, who began acting as a teenager in the early ā90s, said that the industry has radically shifted over the course of his career.
āPay was fair. And the momentum could be built. And while talent was never a surefire marker of success,⦠if you helped make a Studio money, you were guaranteed to get another opportunity to do so,ā he said of Hollywood during his early career. āBut with conglomerate corporatizing of Hollywood, those unwritten rules of mutual respect have shiftedā¦. Drastically. Iām being asked to āhang in thereā by my own union and reps.ā
The actor, who recently appeared in *Supergirl* and *The Studio*, said that heās been expected to ābrandā himself online.
ā[Iām] asked to reinvent myself on social media for likes and follows so that I can be considered for fan conventions and internet ads just so I can make the money that simply acting on a TV show or film or stage refuses to pay me anymore,ā he said. āI, along with many talented folks, not just actors, are being mass demoted. Imagine you excel in your career for 34 years, just to be drastically demoted for it.ā

Krumholtz says that heās still open to acting in the future, but he refuses to keep playing the game with the current rules.
āIf you want to work with me as an actor, I am interested. If you believe in what I can do as an actor, I believe in you,ā he said. āIf you simply donāt, if you think youāve seen all I can do and itās just not enough for you, thatās fine, so Iāll just stop begging. Iām not above begging for financial security. But whatās the point of begging for none?ā

The performer, who is next set to star in *Mr. Irrelevant: The John Tuggle Story*, said that he refuses to be ādehumanized by unfair pay practicesā any longer.
āItās a goddamn shame, but I have to be responsible for what I can control and change and thatās me and my heart,ā he wrote. āI can give of myself willingly, elsewhere. I can still act. I can act to make an impact, rather than a measly buck. And thatās my choice. And thatās exactly what I plan to do.ā
Krumholtz ended his extensive thread with appreciation.
āGotta be grateful for all Iāve been given the opportunity to accomplish, for the folks who believed in me. Itās been a breathtaking ride, truly,ā he wrote. āItās been more than one big dream come true. And I slayed it. It healed [a lot] in me. It humbled me. I needed it. Iād be dead if I had never become an actor. Iām certain of that. And now, new life.ā
