Ever since Pop-Tarts started sponsoring the college football bowl game in 2023, the Pop-Tarts Bowl has become a viral sensation thanks to the introduction of the Edible Mascot — an anthropomorphic pastry that was lowered into a giant toaster and eaten live by the winning team.
Now, a few years later, the bowl game is bigger than ever, with the Edible Mascots being expanded from one — Frosted Strawberry was the first — to two teams of competing flavors. Not only that, but fans had the opportunity to vote for "the biggest sacrifice ever" leading up to the final showdown between Georgia Tech and BYU, who will face off on Saturday, Dec. 27, and during the game, viewers will have a chance to watch the pastries live on their own dedicated feed.
So, which flavors make up the teams of Edible Mascots? Where can fans watch the pastries on screen? Who will be eaten live by the winning team? PEOPLE has everything you .

Team Swirls
After kicking off with Frosted Strawberry in 2023, the slate of Edible Mascots expanded in 2024, with fans getting to vote on the official flavor of the game between Iowa State and Miami. Last year, Frosted Cinnamon Roll was chosen among competitors Hot Fudge Sundae and Wild Berry.
In 2025, the flavors have multiplied into two teams of three. "Expanding from three to six Edible Mascots isn’t just about upping the fun with more antics — it’s also about bringing flavor to the forefront by showcasing all the fan-favorite varieties we have to offer," Leslie Serro, vice president of marketing for Pop-Tarts, said in a statement, teasing the mascots' presence will "make this year’s game unforgettable."

Team Sprinkles
On one side is Team Sprinkles consisting of Protein Slammin’ Strawberry, which the brand describes as a "ripped powerhouse mascot with muscles to match its mighty protein-boosted flavor [that's] ready to flex its way to victory;" Frosted Cherry, the "long-time classic" excited to make its game-day debut; as well as Frosted Cookies & Crème, a bowl game newcomer "ready to make a flavorful impression with its striking contrast of speckled frosting."
On the other is Team Swirls with Frosted Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, a "fan-favorite Pop-Tarts Bowl rookie [that's] ready to lead its teammates all the way to Mouth Heaven;" Frosted Wild Berry, a "returning mascot [that's] vying for a second shot at being devoured;" and Frosted Hot Fudge Sundae, a "mascot veteran [that's] adorned in its signature fudge icing swirl."

As mentioned, in 2025, fans can watch the mascots throughout the entire bowl game thanks to a new live feed tracking the pastries.
According to the food brand, fans have been begging for dedicated coverage of their antics beyond just what happened after the clock ran out. "Screw the football game, I want to go [to] the Pop Tart Bowl for the mascot shenanigans," one X user posted in 2023.

Luckily for everyone, Pop-Tarts has launched the first-ever Mascot Cam, "a live, social-first companion" to the ABC broadcast. "From epic entrances to the biggest sacrifice ever and everything in between, fans can watch all the hilarious and over-the-top antics unfold in real-time," the brand said via press release.
All the action will go down on the @PopTartsBowl TikTok channel. The game officially starts at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC, while the antics will get underway ahead of kickoff on Saturday.

Edible Mascot sacrificed during the 2024 bowl game
Ever since 2023, the Edible Mascot has made "the biggest sacrifice ever" by getting toasted live and served to the bowl winners on TV.
During the first year, Frosted Strawberry was sent to Mouth Heaven after it was eaten by players from Kansas State, who defeated Oklahoma that year, 35-32. In 2024, Frosted Cinnamon Roll was offered to Iowa State players after they defeated Miami, 42-41.

This year, the flavor being sacrificed will yet again be determined by fans, who had a chance to vote in the weeks leading up to the game by texting "Sprinkles" or "Swirls." Which team chosen to go into the toaster, however, won't be revealed until the end of the game, after Georgia Tech or BYU comes out on top.
"Pop-Tarts fans are passionate about their favorite flavors, so this year, we’re giving them the power to decide which Edible Mascot team — Team Sprinkles or Team Swirls — will be sacrificed and eaten by the winning team," Serro said in a statement, teasing that "they’ll find that this year’s game is all about delivering more unforgettable moments than ever."
