- Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are bringing their children back to the U.K.

- Harry’s father, King Charles, learned about the move over the weekend.

- The couple will not be taking on royal duties, which they stepped away from in 2020.

After six years in the United States, Prince Harry and actress-turned-lifestyle personality Meghan Markle are taking their little ones, 7-year-old Archie and 5-year-old Lilibet, back to Britain.

The family will relocate to a private home in Harry and the children’s native country this month before the school year starts in September, according to PEOPLE. The couple are expected to maintain their homes in Montecito, Calif., and Portugal, where they vacation.

The outlet reported that Harry’s father, King Charles, heard the news Sunday, and he’s looking forward to spending more time with the family.

Over the summer, Harry and family visited the U.K., and their time included a reunion with their grandfather after four years apart.

King Charles had asked the couple to leave the Windsor home that they had been given by the late Queen Elizabeth II, who died in September 2022. The move came after publication of Harry’s memoir, *Spare*.

In it, Harry wrote about his sometimes strained relationship with his father and the 1997 death of his mother, Princess Diana. He’s reportedly still not in communication with his brother, Prince William.

That followed the 2020 decision by Harry and Meghan, the duke and duchess of Sussex, to step down from their roles as senior members of the royal family.

Even after that, Harry had voiced frustration with the frantic paparazzi coverage that followed him and his wife everywhere across the pond. He was also concerned about his family’s security.

Harry has further shared his feelings in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, the 2022 Netflix documentary series *Harry & Meghan*, and elsewhere.

During their time in the U.S., Markle, a former star of *Suits*, hosted her own lifestyle series, *Love, Meghan*, on Netflix, as part of a $100 million first-look deal to produce a variety of content — movies, scripted series, documentaries, and children’s programs — with the streamer. The deal expired in 2025.

In March, *Variety* noted that their company, Archewell Productions, which they launched in 2020, had largely become a home just for Markle’s As Ever line of lifestyle and home products.
