Prince William was left furious after King Charles and Queen Camilla asked Kate Middleton to make a significant change to her name, according to a royal expert.
Christopher Andersen, in his new biography, Kate! The Courage, Grace, and Power of the Woman Who Will Be Queen, claimed Charles and Camilla suggested Kate alter the spelling of her first name from Catherine to Katherine.
"Charles and Camilla each had a royal monogram that consisted of interlocking C's beneath a crown, and they expressed concern that a third royal cypher with a C was overkill," the author wrote. It comes following reports Kate will be joining Prince William on a vacation.

Andersen continued, "Would Kate mind if she changed the spelling of her full name from 'Catherine' to 'Katherine?'" The audacious request reportedly did not go down well with William, who stepped in to handle the situation himself.
Andersen added, "Offended by yet another command from on high essentially aimed at placating Camilla, a fuming William replied on his wife's behalf. The request was nothing less than 'insulting,' he told his father, not only to Kate but to her entire family."

The royal biographer told Fox News Digital that from the very beginning of William and Kate's relationship, the future prince had "gone to war for Kate," consistently standing up for her, and even ensuring her royal duties never encroached on precious time with their children. The pair share three children - Prince Louis, Princess Charlotte and Prince George.
Anderson claimed Charles and Camilla expected Kate to go along with their plan because she has always been a nice, cooperative team player, but they didn't take into account the fact that she personally prefers to be known as Catherine and feels very strongly about the name her parents gave her.
"Kate is very secure about who she is and how she wants to be perceived by the outside world," Andersen said. "Changing her formal given name for such a bizarre, almost comical reason was a bridge too far."

Fortunately, the Princess of Wales is "genuinely fond" of her father-in-law and actually assumed he got the "absurd" idea from someone else. She didn't hold any grudge or ill-feeling towards him, Andersen explained.
Kate is set to accompany William on a major international trip, according to reports, with the plans being described as a pivotal moment for the royals. It's believed the Princess of Wales will travel to India with her husband later this year for the Earthshot Prize Awards.
Royal expert Russell Myers told OK! Magazine, "Following her successful return to international duties this year, which included her visit to Reggio Emilia in Italy for her early years research, Catherine is very much looking forward to attending the Earthshot Awards in India alongside her husband."
He explained that Kate's decision to join William is a huge step in return to royal life following her cancer battle. Myers added, "The fact that she's planning to go to India is such a huge milestone, not only for her, but for the couple together."
