Princess Charlotte’s Favorite Sport Isn’t the Same One That Her Mom Kate Middleton Played

Princess Charlotte reportedly plays on an exclusive “out-of-school” netball team that “competes at a high level all over the country.”

Her mom Kate Middleton excelled at sports in school, though she was the captain of her field hockey team at Marlborough College.

Charlotte’s dad, Prince William, recently shared that she also “loves gymnastics and ballet.”

Princess Charlotte is taking after her mom as an athlete, but not in the same sport. New reporting suggests that the 11-year-old daughter of Kate Middleton and Prince William is particularly skilled at netball.

According to the Daily Mail, Charlotte plays on an “out-of-school” team that “competes at a high level all over the country.”

“All of the parents of the girls on the opposing teams are wondering whether or not they’re going to run into William and Kate,” an unnamed source told the publication. “It’s all very hands-on, and it would be funny to see them in such a down-to-earth environment, doing the early starts and long drives that everyone else has to do.”

Earlier this month, the Wales family stepped out in Glasgow, Scotland for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, where they attended two different netball matches. Kate, William, Charlotte, and her brothers—Prince George and Prince Louis—looked on from the stands as Australia faced off against Jamaica. They also watched a game between England and New Zealand.

In January, Kate revealed that her daughter plays “loads of netball” during an appearance at the Wakefield Trinity Rugby Club, per People.

The same outlet reports that the Princess of Wales was the captain of her field hockey team at Marlborough College, the school she attended prior to meeting William at the University of St. Andrews.

At this year’s Commonwealth Games, the Prince of Wales lauded Charlotte’s athletic abilities, explaining that she “loves gymnastics and ballet.” She’s even given Louis some pointers as he continues “perfecting” his handstand, according to their mom.

“Charlotte says I’m not very good,” Louis shared, per The Telegraph.

The 11-year-old princess confirmed that she could indeed do a handstand, while her older brother, 13-year-old George, admitted that he’s “rubbish at anything that involves flexibility.”

George, Louis, and Charlotte’s joint appearance at the Commonwealth Games marked their first official royal engagement in Scotland. It was also the first time that Louis attended a major sporting event, while his two older siblings have accompanied their parents at Wimbledon.
