Robert Carlyle revealed that the cast of The Full Monty stripped fully naked once while filming the movie’s iconic final scene

The scene was shot over two and a half days and featured a live audience of mostly women

The cast reunited in 2023 for an FX sequel series set 25 years after the original film

Robert Carlyle is revealing that the cast of the 1997 film The Full Monty really did bare all while making the film — but only did so “once.”

The film starred Carlyle, Mark Addy, Lesley Sharp, Hugo Speer, Paul Barber, Steve Huison, Wim Snape and Tom Wilkinson as six unemployed steelworkers in England who form a male striptease act to earn some quick cash.

Speaking to The Guardian, Carlyle, 65, was asked whether the cast showed “everything to the audience” while filming the movie’s titular scene.

“Yes, we did,” Carlyle said. “What a shocker that was! We only did the entire strip once and it was shot from the back, thank God.”

The actor continued: “It took two and a half days to shoot. We’d come on, take off our ties, the audience would get excited and then we would cut for half an hour to set up the next shot. We took off our shirts, then our hats.”

“By the end, the audience must have thought: ‘This isn’t going to happen,’ ” he added. “So when it did, the reaction from the crowd of mainly women was terrifying.”

The film received critical acclaim and was nominated for Best Picture at the 70th Academy Awards.

In 2023, FX revisited the story in The Full Monty, a sequel series.

The series saw all the original cast members reprise their roles from the film, who picked up 25 years later, when they all find themselves in a new phase of life and figuring out their next act.
